Yesterday we placed photos of a moonbow but did you ever hear of a fire rainbow?
The correct name for this beautiful phenomenon is actually circumhorizontal arc.
Fire rainbow is sometimes used to describe this, although they are neither rainbows, nor related in any way to fire. A circumhorizontal arc is an optical phenomenon - an ice-halo formed by plate-shaped ice crystals in high level cirrus clouds.
